Along with his radio background, Hugh Foley has spent almost as much time working in
and around video, film, and television for most of his career. Able to shoot and edit
video, as well voice it and provide music for it, Hugh works primarily in the educational,
documentary, and sports video aspects of video production.

His first video work was doing magic tricks for an insurance agency’s television
commercials while still in high school. Subsequently, his US Army training at the
Defense Information School provided experience in all aspects of live television and
production. While at the American Forces Network, he voiced several video productions
alongside his work as network radio producer. These aired across Europe on AFN.
While in college at New York University, he was a regular voiceover announcer for the
USA Network and several national commercials for Pepsi, Epic Records, and several
cable commercials, along with a promo for MTV, and working as production assistant on
numerous commercial shoots.

Once at Oklahoma State University to begin working on his Ph.D., Foley studied film
theory and criticism under Dr. Peter Rollins, a storied documentarian and film critic. As a
result of that scholarly foundation, he has taught cinema and international cinema for
Rogers State University since 1998. Also in 1998, he began teaching on RSU TV where
he has now amassed roughly 3,000 hours of live television teaching on the university
television station. While doing that, he began producing documentaries for his classes,
some of which have gained international attention. Along with his two youtube channels,
his work has aired nationally on PBS and been shown at conferences and film festivals
around the country.

In 2014, he attended the Sundance Film Festival as a result of partnering with his friend,
Sterlin Harjo, on a documentary film about Muscogee (Creek) Hymns, This May Be the
Last Time. As a result of that connection, he provided scholarly assistance on Harjo’s
next film, Mekko. Additionally, Hugh appeared in all three seasons of Harjo’s series,
Reservation Dogs.

As a producer, Foley has worked for many years as the biographical video producer for
the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and the National Fiddler Hall of Fame, as well as
providing voiceover tracks or full productions for a variety of museums, libraries,
community organizations, tribes, and conference presentations.

As an experiment during the Covid pandemic, Hugh began calling play-by-play of
Cushing Tiger football games from the field instead of being in the press box. While
doing that, he realized he could shoot video at the same time while calling the game.
Then, edit the highlights and upload them. As a result, his unique football highlights are
all voiced, shot, and edited by him.
